Darwin

We have been in Darwin since Monday and it has been a whirlwind ever since. Rhonda has been an excellent tour guide and we have seen much of this beautiful city. Its hard to believe that the city suffered so badly during Cyclone Tracy. We went down to the Stokes Wharf , then to the Museum ( yummy tea and scones), over to East Point military museum, back to a 9 storey building that Andrew is Foreman on. At Howard Springs we hand fed the Barramundi, you lie down on your stomach and hold the bait at water level, wait and suddenly the barra pops out of the water, scares the jeebies out of you and takes of with his dinner. The Charles Darwin gardens have a number of air raid shelters, one of which houses some great memorabilia. Andy and Tony went our to cach red claw on Wednesday, came back with a bucketful so its curried red claw for dinner. The Mindil sunset markets were gorgeous, sitting on your chairs with a glass of bubbles watching the sunset over Fannie Bay, then looking at the arts and craft, and sampling the wares from the food stalls. The Museum had a special display of Ned Kellys gear, also Don Bradmans baggy greens, also a great display of the devastation of Darwin after the cyclone. Great lunch at the Sailing club today, beautiful view over Fannie Bay. we wanted to go and have a look at Parliament house but it was closed off some sort of secret meeting happening. Walked down many steps to go through the oil storage tunnels which were built during the second World war but werent finished before the war ended. There is so much history in Darwin but until Rhonda has taken us around to look around we didnt realise what a huge part of the 2nd World War it played. All the way up the Stuart Highway there is airfields and other was reminders, I dont remember being taught any of this during my school years.
Tony and Andy are going down to Dundee fishing tomorrow will stay overnight, Dundee, is past Crab Claw Island
