Wyndham
Here we are still in Wyndham, have been here a week and experienced all kinds of weather, rain, sun, cold and wind. Have been waiting for the rain to clear so the roads can open, up till now the Gibb River, Kalumburu , Mitchell Plateau, Bungle Bungles and Tanami track have been closed for a number of days.
There have been large numbers of people stranded at all places, some had run out fuel and worse still BEER. We have done as much sightseeing around Wyndham as there is to do, the wharf, five mile lookout which we went up to 3 times in different weather conditions and it looks so different each time.
Tony and I took a run out to the Prison tree a huge Boab with a large hole hollowed out large enough to put prisoners in. The road was rough and a number of creeks crossed the road. A few days previous we went out to the Grotto, a gorgeous watgerhole 175 metres at its deepest point.
A scary walk down 140 man made steps which did a few hairpin turns, there are no railings around the edges you just have to get down and up the best way you can. The trecherous walk was worth it though, it was a magical place and there were a few hardy ones jumping off the top of the cliffs, climbing up behind the waterall, also out onto horizontal tree branches.
We are still meeting people who know my family, the latest was Roger Tweedle who my brother buys cattle from and also who Danny (people we are travelling with) buys cattle from also. They had come up the Tanami track and their vehicle and van was covered in red mud. Many vehicles were the same, the van parks in Kununurra were bursting at the seams.
Will take the laptop with me but dont know whether I will have reception to do an update, in that case the next update will be a long one. Take care everyone and remember we love hearing from you all
