Barn Hill
Another week has passed since I was last in contact with you all. Our last night in Broome was an eventful one, at 4.30Am we heard the sound of a speeding vehicle. Thinking it was out on the road we were shocked to find it was actually in the caravan park, the young guy was doing speeds of up to 80klms on the van driveways being pursued by the men in blue. Thankfully no one was hurt but it was scary feeling especially for those in tents with children.
We didnt have a very long drive from Broome as we were only going as far as Barn Hill about 110 klms away, we stopped for smoko and to photograph some beautiful purple flowers and about 10 vans went past, I said to Tony I bet they are all going where we are going. Sure enough they all were. However after a drive of 9klms over a dirt road with umpteen speed bumps we arrived at this absolutely gorgeous place, we took an unpowered site for 2 nights then moved onto one of the sites that the long term vanners use, they went home early. We have a grassy site and look out the front and side to ocean views, magnificient. Once we were settled we went for a walk to see if Helen and Kevin were here, we met them in Kununurra, they told us about this place. They were here but not with their van, they had a bad accident, someone ran into the side of it and it is a write off so they are tenting it till they get back to Perth, thankfully they werent hurt. It was great to catch up with them.
Sunday night is roast night here, $15 for a 3 course dinner, an aboriginal band played music, after quite a few drinks some of the vanners tried their hand at the didgeredoo and worse still singing. However it was a great night and even Tony was up and dancing his heart out, along with 270 other pople. This is a great idea in parks and gets people away from their TVs . Wednesday night is BBQ night, you take your tables and chairs over, cook your dinner and enjoy everyones company. You dont know who is here that you might know if you dont get out and about. We had a great night with Loretta, Neil, Ros, Rolf,Helen and Kevin
\ The wind has been unbelievable this week, kind of like the westerlies in Brisbane during Ekka time, Tony went out in the boat one day, have to launch it off the beach, counting the waves and getting out before you get swamped. Coming in is just as bad and nearly everyone has been swamped at least once. It was a bit rough for him and they came back after 3 hours with nothing, some of the boats are going out 15klms to catch fish. We saw a few whales yesterday and a number of dolphins. While Tony and Richard were out Mary and I went for a walk along the beach, as you can see by the pictures the rock formations are amazing and all this is in a stretch about 4klms long. I have so many different pictures I didnt know which ones to put on.
Another great thing they have here is a craft group for the ladies, there are a lot of talented ladies around and some of the work is amazing, from knitting, crochet, beading, hardanger etc. I just keep knitting my blanket strips, havent got round to taking my cross stitch out yet, havent had time there always seems to be something to do.
My Uncle Mac and Aunty Vicki arrived Wednesday morning after driving from Port Hedland into a strong head wind. They will travel back some of the way to Perth with us. We havent seen them for over 2 years when they came to visit in Brisbane, it is great to see them.
It seems like there isnt much to tell this week but we have had a wonderful relaxing time and we are supposed to be on holidays arent we. We leave on Monday morning to go south to 80 mile beach, maybe for a week.
I just went for a walk down the beach and it has come up very rough and all the boats are coming in, hope Tony and Graham dont stay out too long. Some boats are out a long way and arent big boats.
