Coral Bay

Its hard to believe that our week on Coral Bay has come to an end, we leave tomorrow for Carnarvon. As a place we aren't fussed on it and the wind hasnt stopped blowing. However the colour of the water and the beautiful beach is enough to win you over.

We didnt put the boat out as it has been far too windy but Tony has been out most days fishing off the beach with okay success. He and Peter were out at 6am for 4 mornings, Peter and Carol left this morning but Tony still went out and came back with two big Trevally.

We have been out for some great walks and one day we all went right out past the headland, further than it looks. We have also been for some great drives, some of them a bit scary in the soft sand, however we managed not to get ourselves bogged. The water changes colour with the tides and according to where the reefs are.

Coral Bay is a mecca for snorkelling as it is part of the Ningaloo Reef. There are a lot of people here at the moment and its hard to go down the beach and get a spot out of the wind. They have little beach shelters and we sat under one even though someone else had put a towel there.

After a while they came back and we apologised for taking their spot. They weren't bothered so we introduced ourselves and with Peter and Carol , us, Netta and John (from Israel) we had a fantastic 2 hours talking to them, they have only been travelling here for a few months and their English is amazing. We learnt so much about their country, and they about ours.

They told us funny stories about some of the "lifters" (hitch hikers) they had picked up. It was a wonderful time and we laughed so much. Enjoy your travels guys and you never know when we will meet again.

A lot of the area here is protected Sanctuary so you cant fish the waters, I think the fish know this and when you stand at the waters edge they come right up around your feet, they love chook pellets too. We took down some old pilchards for them to enjoy. There is a shark nursery and we saw a number of small sharks, the shallow water is a safe haven for them.

Saturday evening saw the 6 of us go to the Hotel for cheap Happy Hour, we decided to stay for dinner and watch the AFL prelim final. Will have to make sure I am somewhere in range to watch the big one this weekend.

We will catch again from Carnarvon.
