Sheryl's Profile ...

Sheryl was born and raised on a dairy farm in Warragul, Victoria, learning early to respect the environment & conserve our valuable, natural resources. That served as useful training for running her own restaurant where keeping waste to a minimum & recycling can keep profit margins up & environmental impact down.

Sheryl & her husband Tony founded Carlyle's in 1985 & for 17 years the suburban BYO drew customers from far & wide with its exceptional food & unbeatable service, winning awards along the way & gaining accolades from Brisbane's top food critics.

Sheryl took a special interest in Chocolates, Petit Fours & Biscuits, entering a platter into a Chef of the year contest & winning a silver medal! Her patrons enjoyed a different hand made chocolate & freshly baked biscuit with their coffee on every visit.

Fresh herbs grown in Sheryl's garden were one of the many personal touches that set Carlyle's aside, with meals not allowed to leave the kitchen until a sprig of fresh herb was added to garnish. The recycling process started at home & spread to the restaurant kitchen, with vegetable scraps used to make compost to feed the herbs.

Growing up with tank water has also taught her how to have the 2 minute shower, a skill that has come in handy since the introduction of water restrictions, & now in their journey's around Australia in the GU & Caravan.

In 2001, Sheryl got her first computer & gingerly started about learning a new technology that she had never before experienced. After an 8 week "Introduction to Computers" course through the local Tafe, she began using the Internet for Banking & hasn't looked back.

In 2003, Sheryl & Tony handed over Carlyle's into the capable hands of Shane & Jodie, selling up & ready move on after 17 years ... ready to start WANDERING ACROSS AUSTRALIA! For 4 years they have been carefully planning their 1 year trip around Australia, searching for the perfect Caravan & fitting it out just right.

In the months before their trip, Sheryl started searching for a laptop & researching the wireless Internet options for the great expedition. She also purchased her first digital camera & with the help of her daughters set up a blog to share her adventures.
